I've never purchased a website before. Will you guide me through the entire process?

Definitely! The unique process I have in place will educate & empower you along the way to make informed decisions. The last thing I want is for you to be uncomfortable or overwhelmed.

Do you outsource your projects or send work overseas?

No. All work is either done by myself in Wellington, New Zealand or a locally based specialised creative partner.

Do we own the website once it's complete?

Yes. Once full payment has been made, you will have full ownership over your website. Whether your website is built using custom code (HTML, CSS, JS, PHP) or using WordPress, you can transfer it to just about any web host. You're also not stuck to a fixed contract with me, so although I would hate to see it happen, you have the freedom to move to a third-party company.

How long does it take to make a website?

On average, it will take between 4 to 6 weeks to have a website ready for launch. This timeline can be shorter or longer depending on how proactive you are with any revisions or assets you want on the site. Bear in mind, that every project is different and the type of website selected will influence the overall length of the project.

Do I need to have all my website content prepared before contacting you?

Not at all. I can get started by using placeholder content while you work towards completing your content. To make things easier, I'll provide you a content outline to follow, free of charge. This gives you guidance on the type of text and images that would perform best on your website.

I've received quotes that are higher than your prices. Are you cutting corners to offer lower prices?

Websites come in all shapes and sizes just like computer or cars. You'll find quotes ranging from a few hundred dollars all the way up to hundreds of thousands of dollars. The websites I create are designed to be the perfect balance of features and prices for small to medium businesses. I'm able to keep prices low due to low overheads and streamlining the process. I will never sacrifice the quality of the finished product to take on more clients.

I'm not based in Wellington, can you still make our business' / organisations / brands website?

Of course! I have a lot of technical customer service experience communicating via, phone, chat or email with customers around the world. I'm also happy to jump on a video call so we can chat face-to-face.

Once you hire me, I outline content and design details prior to starting. Each project starts with a plan in place. Proposals are included with Digital Marketing packages. However, to keep the prices low for Web packages, proposals are not offered but can be created for an additional cost.

Can you evaluate my current website or finish my incomplete website?

Contact me to discuss your exact situation. In most cases it is cheaper to start over than it is to modify or complete an existing website.

Small to medium sized businesses / organisations & brands that align with my values. Contact me and I'll consult with you to see if we'd be a good fit.

Do you use pre-made templates?

Only if you want me to. It's your choice. If your budget is very limited, in order to save you money I can use a pre-made template to cut design or development time down. I will let you know, beforehand, if I believe it is a good choice for the project. So you can still get the most out of your website.

Responsive web design is a technique used to build a website that adapts its layout to fit the size of any device. Instead of having to build an additional website for mobile devices, you can lower initial costs by only needing a single website.

Will the websites you make work on mobile devices (phones, tablets, etc..)?

Yes. I use a mobile first approach when I design websites. This means I put an emphasis on ensuring the users experiences is the best it can be while on a mobile device, as a high percentage of website traffic comes from mobile.

How many design revisions are allowed?

The standard package allows for 4 revisions. Starter allows for 2 and premium allows for unlimited revisions. Please provide me with a detailed list of all the changes each time to make the process quick and smooth. If we are moving in circles, I'll work with you on ways to get the project back on track.

Are your websites made using content management system (CMS) software?

Yes and No. It's your choice. If you require a custom website without a CMS I will hand-code the website from scratch. Which gives you a completely unique solution. I belive this is best choice if you don't need to make any regular changes to the website (e.g. monthly) or you have some basic HTML & CSS knowledge.

If you require a custom website with a CMS I will use WordPress, the leading CMS currently in use on the Internet. I believe it provides the right balance of customization and usability for small businesses.

What is a content management system (CMS)?

A content management system (CMS) is software that allows you to update and manage your website through an easy-to-use interface. Think of it like Microsoft Word but for your website. Without this software, you'll need to hire a web developer to make modifications to your website or have some HTML, CSS knowledge to change content. I use WordPress, the most popular CMS in the world, as the content management system.

What is WordPress?

WordPress is content management system (CMS) software that allows you to edit and manage the text and images on your website. It's open-sourced and community developed, meaning anyone is free to build their website on top of the software.

I've used WordPress in the past and had a bad experience. What are your thoughts on WordPress?

I believe that WordPress is currently the best CMS available for small businesses. Unfortunately, not all WordPress websites are created equal. There are a lot of low-quality, security prone or unsupported pre-made themes available that give the platform a bad reputation.

I build each website from the ground up using the most up to date frameworks that are available and if additional plugins are required for functionality, then only the highest rated, up to date and supported plugins are used.

If you still don't want to use WordPress and you need a CMS, I can implement an alternative CMS that best fits the requirements of the project.

Do you use and/or purchase pre-made WordPress themes?

It's your choice. If your budget is small, in order to save you money I can use a pre-made template to cut design or development time down. I will let you know, beforehand, if I believe it is a good choice for the project.

Do you use WordPress plugins to create your websites?

When used, only the highest rated, up to date and supported plugins are selected to give you most value out of your website.

What is search engine optimization (SEO)?

Search engine optimization, or SEO, is the process of improving a website's rank on search engines like Google or Bing.

Having your website show up higher than your competitors on these services often leads to more visitors and customers. While there are industry best practices used to help improve your rank, SEO techniques are subjective and can be thought of as an art.

SEO features in the web packages are designed to provide the biggest impact at prices that make sense for small business.

Does my website need search engine optimization (SEO)?

Yes. So people know you exist. Many people are surprised to learn SEO isn't a single process that takes place. Google has thousands of different factors it weighs in order to rank your website. How fast your site loads, ease of use on mobile, how long people stay on your site, plus many others are taken into consideration.

On-page SEO ensures your website is coded to correct standards and the content on your website is structured properly. This makes Google happy and gives you a boost within their rankings.

Off-page SEO is more complex and primarily involves something called "backlinks". These are links on other websites pointing to your website. Getting authentic quality backlinks is very time consuming and difficult. Some agencies will try to "game" the system by creating fake backlinks. Google is getting very good at figuring out if a backlink is fake. If you're caught, you can be completely delisted from Google searches. Remember, if it sounds too good to be true, it most likely is.

Do you offer search engine optimization services (SEO)?

Yes. All websites are coded using search engine optimization best practices.

Digital marketing and premium web packages include SEO Content Optimization and is perfect for small businesses looking for more in depth SEO. We'll perform industry keyword analysis and make content modifications monthly to help improve your ranking. The premium web package also includes Local Search Optimization where we'll list your business on "Google My Business" and other major directories. This can also be a good way to gain visibility if your business operates within a small geographical area.

Can you help me to get my website to show up on Google?

Yes. It's almost always possible to get your website to show up for "branded" searches, meaning someone typing in the name of your business. It can be much more difficult to compete on industry keywords if your market is saturated.

Can you guarantee my website will show up first on Google?

No. Be cautious if someone is making this guarantee. There are third parties who falsely claim this is possible just to bring in more clients. They typically use techniques that can penalize your website or even get you removed from Google. Every business's circumstances are unique and the outcome of every SEO strategy is different. A more realistic goal is to have your website show up on the first page of Google results.

Are there any recurring costs involved with owning a website?

Yes. Many design companies won't mention recurring costs before starting your project. At a minimum, you'll need monthly web hosting and an annual domain name registration. You have the freedom to change your web host, domain name and transfer the website to a third party for management as well if you are on a monthly web package.

What forms of payment do you accept?

Payment processing is done through PayPal or by Bank Deposit. I don't store payment information outside of these secure methods.

Do you offer a satisfaction guarantee?

I offer a thirty day money back guarantee. If you're unhappy with my web services for any reason within the first thirty days after I handover the finished product to you, you are free to terminate your contract with me and I'll refund your payment after I have received the project files.

Do you offer a warranty?

Absolutely! Bug fixes are included with each of the monthly website packages. I'll keep your website running in the same condition it was as the day it launched. This is one of the biggest benefits of being on a monthly package.

What is your refund policy?

If you're unsatisfied and want to terminate your contract within the first thirty days, I'll refund your payments. There are no refunds for any services after the first thirty days after hand over of project.

What happens if my site is inaccessible or displays incorrectly?

Contact me anytime between 9:00am - 9:00pm (NZ Standard Time) Monday to Sunday. Because your web hosting is done through a third party of your choice, it is possible the issue could be on their end. In these instances, I'll let you know the source of the problem so you can contact the third-party host.

Do you charge for technical support?

As long as you're on a monthly package with me, there isn't a technical support charge. Otherwise, it will be charged at an hourly rate.

How long does it take for someone to respond to an email?

I try my best to respond to all emails within 4 hours. If you have an emergency, I recommend calling me between 9:00am - 9:00pm (NZ Standard Time) Monday to Friday. 12:00pm to 4pm on Saturdays or 'LIVE CHAT' with me during those times.

What is web hosting?

Web hosting refers to the server which responds to requests to view your website. It's simply another computer connected to the Internet for the sole purpose of transmitting your website to users. Any time you visit a website, there is another computer somewhere in the world you connect to in order to view it.

Do I need web hosting?

Yes. This is what makes your website accessible through the Internet. All of the web packages includes the cost of web hosting.

Do you offer website hosting services?

No. To ensure I can provide the best product, I specialise in Digital Marketing, Web Development and Web Design. I leave the hosting to third parties who specialise in web hosting. Choosing your web host is like choosing your broadband provider. I can make suggestions for what web hosts to choose from based on the project so you can make an informed decision.

How do I get email hosting?

Most web hosts these days offer email hosting so you can forward an already existing email addresss to your business website address (domain) or create a new email address with your domain name. For example: hello@redigital.nz or hello@examplecompany.com. However, sometimes there may be some limitations in regards to storage space, spam controls or fraud and virus protection.

Alternatively, I can help set you up with GSuite or Microsoft Office 365.

What is a domain name?

A domain name is a memorable phrase used to access your website. Some examples are 'yourbusinessname.com', 'redigital.nz', 'google.co.nz'. Every computer connected to the Internet has a long string of unique numbers used to identify itself called an "IP address". Without a domain name, you would need to remember the IP address in order to view a website.

Domain names are purchased using a "registrar" which acts like a phonebook. When someone types in your domain name, behind the scenes your registrar will look up your domain for them and return your IP address back. Their computer will then know where to find your website.

How do I purchase a domain name?

I can purchase and register one on your behalf at no additional charge. If you’re on one of my monthly web packages, I can renew your domain for you annually.
